Our Debut and a Giveaway

I seriously don't think I could be more excited about this post. Actually that's not true, i totally could be -- but only if it also involved Mexican food, diet coke, and Chick-fil-a. I am feeling seriously deprived being at camp. If anyone feels like sending me any of the afore-mentioned goodies, well I would not complain.

Anyways, back to the point. Because I DO have one. And it's a big one too. Adam and I have some friends, whom I have introduced you to before. These friends have a ministry called Broken Voices. Their whole aim in their ministry is to "share stories that inspire you to begin dreaming big and acting now with your life." As it turns out, they wanted OUR little ol' lives to be one of those stories.

So they interviewed us, and followed us around downtown, and even came down to camp. And today they release our 'episode' -- I am so excited about it. Oh and a little nervous to see how I look on camera. I never like how my voice sounds on video. I like to believe that every single camera captures it inaccurately.

To celebrate this momentous on-screen debut, Adam and I thought it would be fun to host my very first giveaway EVER.

What, you may ask, can you win? As a matter of fact, you can win TWO things!! I know, you could not be more excited. For realz.

The first thing you can win is a book we talk about in our interview, as the impetus for our movement into inner-city ministry. The book (which I told you a little more about here) is called The Irresistible Revolution by Shane Claiborne.

Secondly, you will win a copy of Broken Voices' full-length movie, Anthem. Trust me, it will move you and change your view of what it means to serve God with your life.

So basically, if you DO NOT want to be CHANGED -- do NOT enter this giveaway.

Oh and the details: All you have to do to enter is go on over to the Broken Voices website and watch our episode. Then come back here and leave a comment regarding how fantastic it was or what your favorite part was. Or you could talk about my impeccable fashion sense and style and how skinny I look . . . Oh I kid. All you need to do is leave a comment, any comment. You dont even actually have to watch the episode (because honestly I have no idea how to verify said watching . . . )

Also, you can get an extra entry for becoming a follower, and another extra entry for twittering or blogging about the giveaway. Just be sure to leave me an extra comment letting me know.

I'll leave comments open til Friday and pick the winner on Saturday. Oh and just some words of wisdom: even if you don't win, I HIGHLY recommend both reading the book and watching the movie. Totally worth it.

  1. hey friend! LOVED the episode! You and Adam both spoke so articulately, sharing your story in such a clear way. And Ryan even got his face on there for a second! It made me think about Alexis. I don't have any way to get in touch with her. Can't wait to go through the mentoring training and get this party started!

  2. I'm so glad to know you.

The sheer joy on your face when y'all were asked about what camp was like for your kids...WOW.

Praying every single day for y'all, the kids, the other counselors.

And wondering when I can come see it in action!!!

  5. Becca, just watched your video. Loved it. And Leslie Ruth is right - the look on your face says it all. You are doing what GOD made you to do - and that's awesome!

  6. I'm deeply moved. Almost moved to tears. Your story is inspirational. To hear Gods calling and to ACT on it and TRUST the Lord...well, thats a MIRACLE in itself! I hope God continues to bless your ministry, because you are such a blessing to those innocent lives that you touch everyday. You 2 are so humble...<3

  9. Becca,
Great video... so exciting to see what you and Adam are doing with the camp and to hear more of your story!
And Becca, no one likes the sound of their own voice on video/tape recordings. It's only natural. And Becca, you looked/look great.

  10. Brent and I sat down to watch the episode last night. I have been following your stuff for awhile, but he had no idea what you guys were up to and was VERY inspired.

  11. I think my favorite part was watching you physically put arms around the kids and see their faces light up. Often, it's that simple to be Jesus, isn't it?

  12. Well, count me out. I absolutely do NOT want to be changed : ) Just kidding Becca, Becca, Becca! I would LOVE to see that. I am going to watch your clip right now. I know you will sound delightful. Unless you have a deep man voice. I can't imagine you with a deep man voice : )

  13. Okay. I am adding you to my Google Reader and putting you on the blogroll. Perhaps both people who read Tater Tales will click over! Haha!

The interview was fantastic, and you are so skinny that I could barely see you. Please go eat lots of cheese!

I can't thank you enough for leaving me a note today. I am deeee-lighted to know about the incredible work Christ is doing through you and your husband. What a blessing you are to those precious children.

    LOVE THIS BLOG!

  17. I can't even find words. That was SO amazing (and yes, you ARE thin, and tall, and gorgeous.. inside AND out!). I just love when you talked about those kids being our neighbors; I loved the way you hugged and stroked those little girls, Becca. And when the one boy grabbed Adam's nose.. it's just so obvious that they're comfortable with you and that they KNOW you love them. Hands and feet, indeed.. that's what it looks like, folks! Beautiful...
I'll be doing a post here shortly. I'll most likely Facebook it. And I'm a follower. But I don't need to win "stuff", even good stuff. Just being here, and seeing that? Makes me a winner.

  23. Becca! About your I heart faces question... try looking in your menu while your camera is in the M or manual mode. Do you shoot manual? For every setting on your camera top (the auto, AV, TV, M button) there will be different menus..... i hope that helps. I don't know anything about editing, but i know about some Rebel camera stuff. I love my oldie, but goodie rebel from about 10 years ago! No lie! Still the BEST all around camera. I still use it even though I have upgraded to the 5D. It is totally all the camera anyone could ever need!

  28. Ok...I haven't watched the video yet...though I've intended to since you posted this blog. I'm watching it today when Javen is taking a nap, but I need to leave the comment now because I don't want to forget to comment later. It's ok, I'm not stupid...just pregnant.

  29. I love that book. (If you happen to pick me, I hope you will go on to someone else, I want them to experience it). But I did want to comment anyway...

I know that commenter Leslie said it, but it was wonderful to see your face light up when you spoke of the kids :)

    Enjoyed the webisode!

  30. I tried watching the episode 3 times and it kept stopping in the middle. :( I think it's because I have a wireless connections. Once I get to a wired computer, I'm going to give it another try. It was really neat to get a better feel for you and your husband's mission with inner-city youth. Very inspiring, to say the least!

  34. I'm so behind on all my favorite blogs. I read this on my phone while we were on the road (not literally b/c I was driving) so I couldn't watch the video until now. Blessed my socks (if I'd been wearing any) right off my feet! One of my dearest family friends and her sweet family just sold their stuff and moved to inner-city Austin to do something very similar to what you guys are doing. I can't wait to share this post/video with her. I wonder if she's read the book. I noticed at a a certain point in the video (I should have noted the exact time) when you guys started talking about the camp, your faces lit up, your smiles took over, and I could literally see your passion for this ministry. The same thing happens whenever Shelby starts talking. She's always been beautiful but never more than when she and her husband started living out their calling. I wish you guys could meet each other. I know you'd be buds. Thanks so much for sharing this and I will now conclude the longest blog comment ever written. (sorry.)

  35. Hi! I'm from Annie's blog and was interested in your work in Atlanta. We have a love for those who suffer from injustice and are trying to figure out how this should effect our next steps in life. How can we get a copy or Anthem? Thanks!
