Who wouldn't want to win some natural bug killer?

Today's post is going to be guest written by none other than my hubby, the famous and elusive Adam. Why? Because todays post involves a special giveaway of things like organic pesticides and natural home pest control, which honestly I could care or know less about. Adam's the one who cares about organic and stuff. Me? I'm more of the comes-from-a-can-ic side of thing. However, I do try and feed Jayci organic as much as possible, and we do buy organic and natural cleaners and so on and so forth. So I thought that y'all might appreciate the chance to win some natural bug repellent and cleaner-type products from EcoSmart, especially with summer (and mosquito season!) right around the corner.

What's up interweb world? So, Becca asked me to help her out on her blog...I hesitantly agreed. I'm certainly not the writer she is! In fact, I am a former chemistry teacher so the written communication I normally do is in symbols, illustrations, and stick-figures. As Becca mentioned I do like the organic stuff. There's something about studying molecular structures and biochemistry that has made me hesitant about what we feed Jayci. The even scarier thing is we can't control a lot of the thing that go in to Jayci's body! Studies have been done on families and young children have the highest levels of unnatural chemicals coursing through their veins. All of the things that seem like they are great (fire retardant chemicals in carpet, sheets, clothing, etc.) are ingested by our little ones and there's nothing we can do about it because it's an industry standard. I'm afraid I may be boring you...

So, having the option to use a product that uses natures defenses to rid my house of unwanted pests is a huge plus. I mean hasn't nature been working on defending itself from pests longer than pesticide manufacturers? The active ingredients in EcoSMART's pesticides are from the same plants I use to season food...Rosemary oil and cinnamon oil! I certainly feel comfortable spraying ants and roaches knowing my toddler is not exposed to hazardous chemicals.

I love the outdoors! I love it even more when I am not being bitten by all those blood sucking boogers! Check out the ingredients in the insect repellent -

Rosemary Oil ……………………………………… 0.5%
Cinnamon Leaf Oil ……………………………… 0.5%
Lemongrass Oil ………………………………….. 0.5%
Geraniol ………………………………………………. 1.0%
Other Ingredients*………………………………. 97.5%
Total …………………………………………………. 100.0%

*Isopropyl Alcohol, Isopropyl Myristate, Wintergreen Oil

Sounds like a dual purpose product...insect repellent and cologne. Check out their website to see their products and feedback from others.

I hope I didn't bore you! I tend to explain to Becca all the details about things I get excited about, and Science and the outdoors are two of those things. We will get back to your regularly scheduled programming tomorrow!

Ok now here's the fun part: EcoSmart is offering one of Y'ALL the Safe Home Value Bundle, which includes all sorts of fun bug killers that are natural too. What's not to love?

All you have to do to win is leave a comment saying why you need or want the value bundle. Easy as pie. I will close the giveaway next Tuesday and announce the winner on Wednesday.

*ps-Ecosmart is not paying me, giving me things etc to do this giveaway. . . unfortunately. I just thought their product would be something you'd like to try, I know I will be trying the heck out of it while we're at camp this summer. Because camp = lots of bugs.

  1. Thanks for the link! I've been searching for non toxic bug killers forever! I started green cleaning when I was pregnant with Javen and I'm always up for trying new products. Thanks for doing the research for me. :)

  3. I'd love to have that insect repellent because I hate to spray DEET on the boys.

I also hate having them covered in bug bites.

    Because they whine about it.

And whining drives me to drink.

So pick me so I don't become an alcoholic.

    The end.

P.S. so no one gets offended. My kids don't drive me to drink. I drive them to Sonic.

  6. Hey!!! If I'm #7, that's lucky, right? Cuz it's like God's favorite number and all that :)

I'm kinda embarrassed to admit this, but we live way out in the boonies where our only source of heat is a woodstove. Which means loading up the firewood. Which means those darn little bugs everywhere!

I have a 3-year old who gets into everything and I would *love* something that takes care of the bugs but doesn't endanger him. This is way cool!

  7. Oooh, this sounds great! No kids in this house, but we do have two dogs. I'm always worried about spraying any kinds of bug stuff because they LICK.EVERYTHING. I would love to take some of this off your hands!

  8. I would LOVE to win this product because, like you guys, we have 2 little ones. I try as hard as I can to keep things all natural around here and this sounds wonderful. In fact, if I don't win it, I am heading over to their site to purchase some for the summer! Really helpful post Stanley Clan ;) Thanks!

  11. Not as boring as you had thought... I was completely intrigued but I am also addicted to essential oils and trying to avoid putting chemicals on or in my family's bodies as much as possible so I would love to win some EcoSmart products. Thanks so much for the opportunity, Becca and Adam!

  13. I would love to win some natural bug killer. Here are the three top reasons...in order of importance.
    1. We have adorable daughters similar in age. - ps. Becca - I'm totally stealing the cute hairdo's on Jayci - 15 years of being a boy mom has warped me...I need all the help I can get.
    2. Adam -we taught together at KMHS - that should count for something.
    3. We were co-sponsors of the Interact Club - once upon a time.
    :0)

  14. I hate to beg, but I need this stuff! Just 9 days ago, I found a TICK IN MY ARMPIT! My first tick ever, and after Zach disposed of it, I had a mental/emotional break down. (As in, I keep making co-workers look at my scalp because I am afraid I am tick-infested.) So, I am totally going to pull the Army-wife card (sorry, folks). Zach deploys in about 2 months and WHO WILL GET TICKS OFF ME? OR KILL SPIDERS?? I certainly won't.

  15. Natural bug killer? Bring it on!

  16. Well, we would use this all summer long as we romp thru forests and streams. Good luck with your product. It does sound impressive!

  17. Hmm. The name of my blog is "Life by the Creek". Which implies nearby water, which usually means bugs. LOTS of bugs. Add one boy and a dog, and I get all weird about chemicals. Trying to decide between bugs and chemicals puts me in the passenger seat right next to Carpool Queen. Which technically means that SHE is driving me to drink. You wouldn't want that, would you?

  18. I would love to have it to transition all of our cleaning materials to being more earth-friendly (and safe for us!) :) Thanks!

  20. Well, since firing the exterminator at least 4 years ago, our indoor pest control typically amounts to saying, "I need a shoe!" when one of the creepy crawlies skitters across the floor. Outdoors I try to let them be, but I'm a magnet for all the insects that like to suck your blood.

  21. very cool. we use all natural cleaners and only let the bug guy spray the outside of our house...but i'd LOVE something that we could use for those nasty pests that make it inside and stay outsides! thanks for doing this give away! :) (oh...and we have a 2 year old and twin girls that will be here any day now...that's reason enough right there :)

  22. I came from iheartfaces because I really dig your collage. I'll be back often as your blog is cool and informative. Thanks for the eco-friendly repellent information!

  23. this sounds great. we will be outside at camp all summer, and i can't stomach putting anything that isn't natural on my family.

my husband works in the woods a lot and straight anise oil repells bugs, so i know natural works!

  24. Thank you for this post! We have tens kids and they are all in need of some good bug repellent. :) Our four year old has been hospitalized in the past from cellulitis from scratching her mosquito bites. It's a big deal because she has a congenital heart defect that is fairly serious so all the doctors freak out when she gets an infection. She got another case of cellulitis already this spring and I am on a mission to find SOMETHING to repel them that won't be toxic to her little body.

  25. I hate bugs. I have even went so far to scare my 3 year old boy away from bugs. Seriously, now that's a bad mom! But more than I hate bugs. I hate bug bites. So, anyway of getting rid of bugs would make me a happy camper. Oh, maybe I would camp then????

  26. Thanks!! my youngest daughter is allergic to mosquitoes, so we are always looking for a great spray to use, but had yet to find one!!!
